I don't know what I love more at the Wamego Tulip Festival--the nearly 20,000 tulips blooming in this Kansas town or the authentic Old Dutch Mill windmill, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Built in the 1870s by Dutch immigrant John Schonhoff, the 40-foot-tall stone mill is the only one of its kind in Kansas. In 1924, townsfolk moved the mill piece by piece from a farm 12 miles away and rebuilt it. Now fully restored, the mill grinds grain in Wamego City Park, site of the festival.

The festivities kick off Saturday morning with children performing the traditional Netherlands street sweeping. Afterward, you can tour the mill, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through town or browse through booths where artisans and craftsmen display their handiwork.

Wamego is in northeast Kansas at the junction of State Highway 99 and U.S. Highway 24, about 40 miles west of Topeka and 10 miles north of I-70.
